Why Getting Married at Home Makes Complete Sense.

There is no venue that knows you better than your own home. The garden your dad planted. The dining table you have eaten at for twenty years. The backyard where the kids grew up. The lounge room where you watched movies and decided you liked each other enough to do this forever. Getting married in that space — with a celebrant who comes to you — is genuinely meaningful in a way that a hired venue rarely is.

And the BBQ goes on straight after. Which is, frankly, the ideal wedding reception.

This Is For You If...

😴 The kids are napping A 2-minute ceremony before they wake up. Done. Legally married. Highly recommend.
👵 Grandma can't travel Or Grandpa. Or your mum. Or anyone who matters and cannot get to a venue. The ceremony comes to them.
🐈 You have cats Or dogs. Or rabbits. Or a very particular parrot. Your animals belong at your wedding and home is the only place that works.
🔨 You just renovated You spent two years doing up your home and now it looks extraordinary. Getting married in it — and having professional photographs taken there — means you have images of your home at its best, on the day you got married. That is something worth keeping forever.
🍺 You want a BBQ after Ceremony done. Sausages on. Neighbours over. This is genuinely the most Australian wedding format and we are completely here for it.
☕ Over a cuppa is fine Sitting around the dining table with your parents. Tea or coffee. Celebrant at the head of the table. Some of the most genuinely moving ceremonies we have done happened exactly like this.

📸 Professional Photos of Your Home. On the Day You Got Married.

This is something couples do not always think about — but should. When you get married at home and add a photographer, you get professional portraits taken in your own space. Your lounge room. Your backyard. Your garden. The home you built together or just finished renovating.

These are not just wedding photos. They are a document of your life at the moment you got married — the home you were living in, the things around you, your cats on the couch, your dog in the garden. Couples who add a photographer to a home ceremony consistently tell us it is the best decision they made.

Every Home Is Different. All of Them Work.

Our celebrants have married couples in every home setting imaginable. Here are the most common — all completely legal, all genuinely beautiful.

🌿 The Backyard
Most popular

The most popular home ceremony setting by far. Under a tree. In the garden your dad spent years building. On the deck. Surrounded by the plants you have grown. The backyard is deeply personal — and the photographs are always extraordinary because the setting is completely real.

🛋️ The Lounge Room
Intimate · Unexpected · Perfect

The room you actually live in. The couch you sit on together. The bookshelves, the artwork, the things that make it yours. A lounge room ceremony is quietly remarkable — it feels nothing like a traditional wedding and completely like you. Renovation photoshoot? This is the spot.

☕ The Dining Table
Over a cuppa · Very Australian

Sitting around the table with your parents and a cup of tea. Celebrant signs the paperwork. Two minutes later you are married. This is one of the most genuinely moving ceremony formats we do — there is something profound about doing it at the table where your family has always gathered.

🌸 Grandpa's Garden
Meaningful · Family · Beautiful

The garden a parent or grandparent has spent decades tending. The roses, the veggie patch, the fruit trees, the order they have imposed on the world. Getting married in that garden, with that person present, is a very particular kind of meaningful that no hired venue can replicate.

How It Works

1
Book online — tell us your home address and date

Tell us your suburb and state, your preferred date, and the package you want. No travel fees for most metro locations. We confirm availability and assign your local celebrant within one business day.

2
Lodge your NOIM — we handle it

We send you the Notice of Intended Marriage form and lodge it with your state's Births, Deaths and Marriages on your behalf. Must be lodged at least one month before the ceremony. NOIM lodgement is included in every package.

3
Zoom with your celebrant before the day

Meet your celebrant on Zoom. Talk through the ceremony, any personal touches you want included, where in the home the ceremony will happen. Your celebrant will have a clear picture of your day before they arrive.

4
Celebrant arrives. Ceremony done in minutes. BBQ on.

Your celebrant knocks on the door, finds the spot, and marries you in 2 to 7 minutes. Presentation certificate on the day. Marriage registered with your state's BDM. Then your home — and everyone in it — is yours for the rest of the day.

Every Home. Every Couple. Every Reason.

Couples who just finished renovating and want professional photos in their home on the most important day. Couples whose parents cannot travel. Couples with young children who need the ceremony to fit around a nap schedule. Couples who have been together for decades and simply want to do it their way in their own space. LGBTQ+ couples. Couples who hate fuss. Couples who love the idea of a BBQ immediately after. Every single one of them is welcome here.

All love. All homes. All of Australia. From $400.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I legally get married at home in Australia?

Yes — completely. In Australia you can get legally married at any private property with a registered Commonwealth Marriage Celebrant. Your home, your backyard, your parent's garden — all are legal ceremony venues. The same NOIM, the same paperwork, and the same marriage certificate applies regardless of the location.

How much does it cost to get married at home?

I Do Drive Thru home ceremonies from $400 on Tight Ass Tuesday. Weekday celebrant from $550. Weekend from $650. Add a photographer from $400 for professional portraits in your home. No venue hire. No travel fees for most metro locations. NOIM lodgement included. Witnesses supplied at $120 each if needed.

Do I need a permit to get married in my backyard?

No — you do not need any permit or council approval to hold a legal ceremony on your own private property. Your backyard, your home, your garden. The only legal requirement is a registered celebrant and a properly lodged NOIM at least one month before the ceremony. We handle the NOIM for you.

Can we have a BBQ after the ceremony at home?

Yes — and it is one of our favourite home wedding formats. Ceremony done in 2 to 7 minutes. Sausages on. Neighbours over. Cold drinks out of the fridge. This is the most relaxed and genuinely enjoyable wedding reception format in Australia and we are completely here for it.

Can our pets be at the ceremony?

Absolutely. Your cats, dogs, rabbits, birds — any animals who live there belong at a home ceremony. This is one of the great advantages of getting married at home. We have married couples with cats on laps, dogs weaving between legs, and one memorable ceremony with a very opinionated parrot. All welcome.

Can we get professional photos taken at our home?

Yes — and we strongly recommend it. Adding a photographer to a home ceremony means you have professional portraits taken in your own space on the day you got married. Your lounge room, your backyard, your renovated kitchen — these are not just wedding photos, they are a document of your life at this exact moment. Photographer from $400, 15 edited images delivered within 7 days.

What if Grandma or an elderly relative can't travel to a venue?

This is one of the most common reasons couples choose a home ceremony — and one of the most meaningful. If someone you love cannot travel, we bring the ceremony to them. Their home, a care facility, anywhere they are comfortable. The ceremony takes 2 to 7 minutes and everyone who matters can be right there. Contact us and we will sort the details.
