One of Australia's most extraordinary urban gorges — sheer dolerite cliffs, the South Esk River, the Alexandra Suspension Bridge, a chairlift, peacocks, and one of the most distinctive landscapes in the country right in the heart of Launceston. The rocks along the riverbed make for extraordinary ceremony and portrait settings. Best on weekdays before the tourist traffic builds. There are excellent restaurants at the Gorge for a celebration lunch immediately after.
The Tamar Valley is one of Australia's great cool-climate wine regions — Josef Chromy, Jansz, Clover Hill, and a string of beautiful cellar doors along the river. Just 20 minutes from Launceston, Hollybank Forest offers both native bush and pine forest settings in a public recreation area — photographers love it for the variety of light and landscape within a small area. A beautiful, accessible alternative to the more tourist-heavy Cataract Gorge.
The beautiful Victorian-era City Park in the heart of Launceston — conservatory building, Japanese macaque monkeys, heritage trees, and a fountain. A charming, accessible setting for couples who want a garden ceremony in the CBD without travelling to the Gorge. Excellent for families with older guests or young children.
Launceston has an excellent food scene and some wonderfully cosy pubs and restaurants for a winter ceremony followed by a long lunch. Get married in a private dining room or a courtyard, sign the paperwork, and spend the rest of the afternoon eating and drinking properly. Very Tasmanian.

How It Works in Launceston
Launceston locals getting married in their backyard, Tasmanian holiday couples planning a Gorge ceremony, destination couples travelling from interstate or overseas — we work with all of them. Tell us the location and the date and we will confirm availability and any travel fees within one business day.
We send you the Notice of Intended Marriage form and lodge it with BDM Tasmania on your behalf. Must be lodged at least one month before the ceremony. If you are planning a Tasmanian trip and your travel plans are not yet confirmed — lodge the NOIM now and you can confirm the exact date later. The one-month clock starts on lodgement.
Meet your celebrant on Zoom. Confirm the location, discuss the ceremony, plan the day. If you are doing a mountain summit hike, your celebrant will brief you on what to bring and what to expect. On the day there are no surprises.
Your celebrant meets you at your chosen location. Two to seven minutes later you are legally married in Tasmania. Presentation certificate on the day. Marriage registered with BDM Tasmania within 14 days. The rest of the island is yours.
