The mountain that defines Hobart's skyline — 1,271 metres, dolerite columns, and a view that on a clear morning stretches across the whole of Southern Tasmania and out to the Southern Ocean. Couples who drive to the summit at sunrise and get married as the light breaks across the island are doing something genuinely extraordinary. We have even had couples trek to the top with lanterns to do exactly this. The drive takes under an hour from the CBD.
Constitution Dock, Elizabeth Street Pier, and the Waterfront Precinct are as Hobart as it gets — working fishing boats, heritage warehouses, the Derwent behind you and kunanyi above. Australia's oldest stone arch bridge — built by convicts in 1823, spanning the Coal River in the Richmond Valley about 30 minutes from Hobart. Getting married on Richmond Bridge connects you to 200 years of Tasmanian history. A council permit is required for ceremonies here — we advise on the process and cost when you book. The village of Richmond has beautiful accommodation and excellent cafés for after.
South of Hobart, the Huon Valley opens into apple orchards, huon pine forests, and the tidal waterways of the Huon River. Deeply rural, deeply beautiful, and very Tasmanian. Autumn in the Huon Valley when the orchards turn is one of the most quietly spectacular things in Australia. Travel fees apply — always worth it.

The laneways behind Salamanca — Salamanca Square, Muir's Bakehouse Lane — are extraordinary for portraits and small ceremonies. The Derwent River foreshore is beautiful throughout — from the city wharves north to Glenorchy and MONA. We have conducted ceremonies in the grounds and on the foreshore near MONA, and extensively at GASP further along the river. How It Works in Hobart
Hobart locals, mainland couples flying in, campervan travellers, international visitors — we work with all of them. Tell us your preferred location and date and we confirm availability and any permit or travel fees upfront within one business day.
We send you the Notice of Intended Marriage form and lodge it with BDM Tasmania on your behalf. Must be lodged at least one month before the ceremony. If you are booking a Tasmanian trip and the exact dates are not yet confirmed — lodge now to start the clock and confirm the date later.
Meet your celebrant on Zoom before the day. If you are doing a kunanyi summit hike they will brief you on timing and conditions. If you need a Richmond Bridge permit they will walk you through it. On the day there are zero surprises.
Your celebrant meets you at your chosen location. Two to seven minutes later you are legally married in Tasmania. Certificate on the day. Marriage registered with BDM Tasmania. Then Hobart — the food, the art, the whisky, the wine — is entirely yours.

Our celebrants are willing to arrive before dawn for a sunrise ceremony. Weather can change rapidly at 1,271 metres — your celebrant advises on conditions, timing, and what to bring. We have even hiked to the summit with couples who wanted to do it on foot.
Yes — a council permit is required for ceremonies at Richmond Bridge. We advise on the process and cost when you book, and can help you navigate the application. Richmond is about 30 minutes from Hobart and the village has excellent cafés and accommodation. Worth every bit of planning.
