Hobart Elopement Celebrant & Packages

kunanyi · GASP · Constitution Dock · Huon Valley · Richmond Bridge · From $400 · 7 Days a Week

Hobart is not for everyone — and that is exactly why it is perfect for you. The connoisseurs, the art lovers, the people who would rather have one extraordinary meal than a hundred ordinary ones. The couples who trek to the summit of kunanyi at sunrise with lanterns. The ones who spray champagne at a sculpture park. The ones who get married at a 200-year-old convict bridge and feel the whole weight of it. Our Hobart team is one of our strongest — and they are genuinely local.

There Is No Government Registry Office Anywhere in Tasmania.

Tasmania is the only state in Australia with no government Registry Office at all. Every couple who wants to get legally married here needs a registered Commonwealth Marriage Celebrant. Our Hobart team is local — not a celebrant who flies in from the mainland, not a single operator with no backup. A genuine local team, available 7 days a week, from $400, at any location in Hobart and Southern Tasmania.

Where We Will Marry You in Hobart and Southern Tasmania

From a sculpture park on the Derwent to a 200-year-old bridge in the Coal River Valley to the summit of kunanyi at first light — Hobart's ceremony settings are unlike anywhere else in Australia.

🎨 GASP — Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park
Most distinctive · Derwent River

Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park is one of the most extraordinary public art spaces in Australia — large-scale sculptures, the Derwent River foreshore, and a landscape that looks like nowhere else. This is where our most artistic Hobart couples get married. Ceremony amongst the sculptures, champagne immediately after, photographs that no other elopement page in Australia can match. Free to access.

⛰️ kunanyi / Mount Wellington
Summit · Sunrise · Epic

The mountain that defines Hobart's skyline — 1,271 metres, dolerite columns, and a view that on a clear morning stretches across the whole of Southern Tasmania and out to the Southern Ocean. Couples who drive to the summit at sunrise and get married as the light breaks across the island are doing something genuinely extraordinary. We have even had couples trek to the top with lanterns to do exactly this. The drive takes under an hour from the CBD.

🚢 Constitution Dock & The Waterfront
Iconic Hobart · City waterfront

Constitution Dock, Elizabeth Street Pier, and the Waterfront Precinct are as Hobart as it gets — working fishing boats, heritage warehouses, the Derwent behind you and kunanyi above. Ceremony on the pier, oysters and a bottle of Tasmanian white immediately after. This is a very Hobart way to get married.

🌉 Richmond Bridge
Historic · Permit required · 30 min from Hobart

Australia's oldest stone arch bridge — built by convicts in 1823, spanning the Coal River in the Richmond Valley about 30 minutes from Hobart. Getting married on Richmond Bridge connects you to 200 years of Tasmanian history. A council permit is required for ceremonies here — we advise on the process and cost when you book. The village of Richmond has beautiful accommodation and excellent cafés for after.

🍎 Huon Valley
Apple country · Waterways · Beautiful

South of Hobart, the Huon Valley opens into apple orchards, huon pine forests, and the tidal waterways of the Huon River. Deeply rural, deeply beautiful, and very Tasmanian. Autumn in the Huon Valley when the orchards turn is one of the most quietly spectacular things in Australia. Travel fees apply — always worth it.

🏛️ Salamanca Place
Heritage · Sandstone · Iconic

The Georgian sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place are one of Australia's great heritage streetscapes. The laneways behind Salamanca — Salamanca Square, Muir's Bakehouse Lane — are extraordinary for portraits and small ceremonies. On a quiet weekday morning before the market crowds arrive, it is genuinely magical.

🌊 Derwent River & MONA
Art · River · Extraordinary

The Derwent River foreshore is beautiful throughout — from the city wharves north to Glenorchy and MONA. We have conducted ceremonies in the grounds and on the foreshore near MONA, and extensively at GASP further along the river. The combination of world-class art and waterfront landscape makes this stretch of the Derwent unlike anywhere else a couple can get married in Australia.

🏡 Your Airbnb or Home
Private · Popular with visitors

We come to you. Many Hobart destination couples — including campervan travellers and mainland couples who fly in — get married at their accommodation. A private garden, a heritage cottage in Battery Point, or a Huon Valley farmstay. No permit, no planning, just your celebrant at the door and the ceremony done in minutes.

✈️ Flying In? Travelling By Campervan? We Have Done This Hundreds of Times.

Hobart draws couples from the mainland and from overseas who specifically want to get married in Tasmania. Many arrive by plane, some by ferry, some in a campervan doing a circuit of the island. Our Hobart team is experienced with destination couples — we work with your itinerary, your accommodation, and your timeline. And if your plans change and the Tasmanian trip falls through — we can transfer your booking to any I Do Drive Thru location across Australia. No penalty. No drama.

How It Works in Hobart

1
Book online — locals and visiting couples both welcome

Hobart locals, mainland couples flying in, campervan travellers, international visitors — we work with all of them. Tell us your preferred location and date and we confirm availability and any permit or travel fees upfront within one business day.

2
Lodge your NOIM — we handle it

We send you the Notice of Intended Marriage form and lodge it with BDM Tasmania on your behalf. Must be lodged at least one month before the ceremony. If you are booking a Tasmanian trip and the exact dates are not yet confirmed — lodge now to start the clock and confirm the date later.

3
Zoom with your Hobart celebrant

Meet your celebrant on Zoom before the day. If you are doing a kunanyi summit hike they will brief you on timing and conditions. If you need a Richmond Bridge permit they will walk you through it. On the day there are zero surprises.

4
Get married. Certificate on the day. Eat and drink magnificently.

Your celebrant meets you at your chosen location. Two to seven minutes later you are legally married in Tasmania. Certificate on the day. Marriage registered with BDM Tasmania. Then Hobart — the food, the art, the whisky, the wine — is entirely yours.

✈️ Plans Change? We Can Transfer Your Booking Anywhere in Australia.

If your Tasmanian trip falls through after you have booked — we can move your ceremony to any I Do Drive Thru location across Australia. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, anywhere. No penalty. This is the advantage of booking with a national team. You are never stuck with a deposit tied to a trip that didn't happen.

Hobart Is For the Ones Who Know What They Want.

Couples who have been to MONA and felt something. Who care about where their wine comes from. Who would rather have an extraordinary moment than an ordinary party. Who chose Tasmania on purpose. Who wanted to get married on a bridge that is 200 years old, or on a mountain at first light, or in a sculpture park with champagne. Whatever brought you here — we are the right celebrant team for it. All love. No judgement. Ever.

All love. Always. From kunanyi to the Huon Valley.

🌿 Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Palawa people as the Traditional Custodians of lutruwita — Tasmania — and of nipaluna, the place we know as Hobart. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this island.

🇦🇺 Local Team · Women Led · National Backup
I Do Drive Thru is an Australian-owned, women-led small business. Our Hobart photography team is one of our best. Behind every local ceremony is the depth of our national team — 118 celebrants and 104 photographers across Australia. We have never missed a ceremony.

🏛️ Not a fly-in celebrant
Some Hobart elopement services are run by celebrants who travel from the mainland. Our team lives here. They know nipaluna's light, its seasons, its roads, and its secret spots. There is a real difference between a local and a visitor with a camera.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Registry Office in Hobart or Tasmania?

No — Tasmania is the only state in Australia with no government Registry Office anywhere on the island. Every couple who gets legally married in Tasmania must use a registered Commonwealth Marriage Celebrant. I Do Drive Thru has a locally based Hobart team available 7 days a week from $400 — not a celebrant who flies in from the mainland.

How much does it cost to elope in Hobart?

I Do Drive Thru Hobart elopements from $400 on Tight Ass Tuesday. Weekday from $550. Weekend from $650. Photographer from $400. Witnesses at $120 each. NOIM lodgement included. Travel fees apply for Richmond Bridge, Huon Valley, and locations beyond 20km from the Hobart CBD — always quoted upfront.

Can we get married at GASP — Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park?

Yes — and this is one of our most celebrated Hobart ceremony locations. GASP is a free public art space on the Derwent River in Glenorchy with large-scale sculptures and extraordinary landscape. We have conducted many ceremonies here and our photographers love it. Free to access, no permit required for small ceremonies.

Can we get married at the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington?

Yes — and summit ceremonies at kunanyi at sunrise are among the most extraordinary things we do. The summit is reached by road in under an hour from the CBD. Our celebrants are willing to arrive before dawn for a sunrise ceremony. Weather can change rapidly at 1,271 metres — your celebrant advises on conditions, timing, and what to bring. We have even hiked to the summit with couples who wanted to do it on foot.

Does Richmond Bridge require a permit?

Yes — a council permit is required for ceremonies at Richmond Bridge. We advise on the process and cost when you book, and can help you navigate the application. Richmond is about 30 minutes from Hobart and the village has excellent cafés and accommodation. Worth every bit of planning.

Do you cover the Huon Valley and the Channel region south of Hobart?

Yes — we cover all of Southern Tasmania including the Huon Valley, Huonville, Cygnet, the Channel region, and the Tasman Peninsula. Travel fees apply beyond 20km from the Hobart CBD and are always quoted upfront. The Huon Valley in autumn when the orchards turn is one of the most quietly spectacular things in Australia.
