Secret Spots to Elope

When Australia went into lockdown because of the coronavirus, a team of Melbourne Celebrants with secret knowledge of ‘all things weddings,’ sprang into action to create I Do Drive Thru – a business that helps couples elope in their cars, (or really at location they can imagine!)

It’s like a super cool wedding registry office on wheels. Your marriage celebrant in Victoria (or anywhere around Australia) will meet and marry you, whilst you sit (socially distanced) in your car, or wherever it is you wish to elope in your own teeny, tiny wedding!

The business was an immediate success as the Victorian Registry Office closed their doors, leaving their already-booked couples, (who’d completed their Notice of Intended Marriage document,) with no Plan B.

Here are our Top Ten ‘Most Incredible’ spots to elope in Melbourne:

1. Iconic Luna Park - We can help with packages inside the park or tie the knot on the street outside in a quick ceremony and magnificent pictures.

2. Murray’s Lookout, Arthur’s Seat is perfect for the drive thru wedding enthusiast. Drive up, enjoy the view, get married and head off again to tour the Mornington Peninsula wine region’s magnificent cellar doors and restaurants.

3. Roof Top at QT - Melbourne is famous for it’s roof top bars. QT combines amazing cocktails, uber-cool city views and vibey club music feel.

4. Tie the knot on the famous Yarra River? Go Boat are operating during the lockdown and adhering to all social distancing rules. Champagne, Picnic basket & Perfect!

5. Street Art – The Melbourne Laneways show case vibrant, arty backdrops, where famous graffiti artists rule. Take your wedding party to the city to elope, OR if you want something completely unique say “I Do” next to your very own, wedding-inspired graffiti art (“Sandy loves Danny” for example.) 6. Fern Gully in Kings Domain at the edge of botanical gardens is a magical spot. If forest gardens are your thing, this is a most romantic spot with a running beautiful stream. It even has it’s own love seat

7. The end of St Kilda pier, is home to fairy penguins who very kindly all turn up at sunset, in their evening suits!

8. The steps of The Victorian State Library are elegant & stately – perfect for fans of books and the printed word. Also being so close to Chinatown and a plethora of city bars, you could wander off together, hand in hand, for delicious morsels and cocktails to celebrate.

9. The Catani Gardens in St Kilda certainly sets the bar particularly high in terms of swoon-worthy spots to get hitched. And for small elopements (under 20 guests) you will not be required to obtain a permit from the City of Port Phillip.

10. The drive-in cinema in Dromana will forever remind us of Sandy and Danny and general Grease Lightning vibes. “You’re the one that I want!”
